EPA Announces Mobile Friendly Tool to Help Implement Label Mandated Mitigation Measures

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently announced a newly developed tool called Pesticide App for Label Mitigations (PALM). This tool helps pesticide applicators determine they are meeting the necessary, label mandated mitigation measures.

Pesticide use directions may require pesticide applicators to take additional steps before applying pesticides, such as implementing spray drift and runoff mitigation measures, and following Endangered Species Bulletins.

What does PALM do?

  • PALM is a tool to help pesticide applicators calculate label mandated mitigation measures.
  • PALM effectively directs the user to enter certain label requirements, field and application specific characteristics, that directly influence how much mitigation is needed. If additional mitigation is required, PALM will list options that the user may implement to meet label requirements.
  • PALM has taken an existing mitigation calculator spreadsheets and formatted them into a web-based interface.
  • This interface is mobile device friendly and easy-to-use.

Reminders for Pesticide Applicators

EPA is making changes to pesticide labels to protect endangered species, following the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) and the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

These mitigation measures primarily apply to agricultural pesticide applications, but will eventually impact all pesticide applicators. It is crucial to always read and follow pesticide label instructions carefully before each application.
